Today's Action at Cork

16th May

If breeding was a guarantee of success, then Erzen would be able to win the Charleville Maiden doing handsprings.

The contest, part of a seven-race card that kicks off at 5.45, sees John Oxx's half-brother to a plethora of top horses strut his stuff for the first time in public.

With Ascot Gold Cup winner Enzeli, as well as Group One winners Ebadiyla and Edabiya among his siblings, the son of Daylami should prove more than a match for race-fit opponents Always Beautiful and Joyful Tears.

The Carbon Group EBF (Mares) Chase is the richest race on the Cork card and could go the way of Ring Street Roller.

James Lambe's charge was getting off the mark at the second attempt over fences at Kilbeggan and will be out to follow up, though Parknakyle, who was just losing the initiative when falling at the last in that race, reopposes on 5lb better terms.

Both will be expected to be in the mix, as will Tramore scorer Indian Love, who beat another opponent, All Heart, by eight lengths last time.

Epic Odyssey went close to breaking his duck at Navan last time and will be expected to run a big race in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden, while Inourthoughts will be out to atone for losing a Curragh race in the stewards' room when he lines up in the Ballyclough Handicap.

Dundalk's card starts at 6.35, but the closing Faughart Race is of most interest, as Zafayra bids to get back to winning ways.

A winner over a mile on the all-weather here on her debut, she chased home Classic contender Chinese White in a Listed race at Gowran Park on her last start and should benefit from the step-up in trip.

Brideview looks a likely type to take the opening North West Maiden, while Spavento will also be out to notch her first success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Maiden.
